The upcoming World Cup 2026 would mark Ronaldo’s sixth appearance at football’s biggest stage

Cristiano Ronaldo has suggested that the 2026 FIFA World Cup could mark the end of his illustrious international career with Portugal. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner admitted that age might finally catch up with him by the time the tournament kicks off across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

“Yes, for sure, I will be 41 years old and I think that will be the time. I think in this big competition, I don't know... As I said, I'm enjoying this moment,” Ronaldo told Mundo Deportivo.

Ronaldo made his international debut for Portugal back in August 2003. Since then, he has amassed an astonishing 225 caps, scoring 143 goals and providing 46 assists — record-breaking numbers that have solidified his status as one of the greatest to ever play the game.

The upcoming World Cup 2026 would mark Ronaldo’s sixth appearance at football’s biggest stage, having first featured in the 2006 World Cup in Germany. It would also complete a remarkable 20-year journey representing his nation at the highest level.

Throughout his international career, Ronaldo has delivered unforgettable moments for the Seleção. He famously led Portugal to victory at Euro 2016 and later lifted the UEFA Nations League trophy twice, cementing his legacy as the country’s greatest-ever player.
