Atlético Madrid taken over by American investors

Atlético Madrid has officially come under American ownership after the club announced that Apollo Sports Capital — part of the U.S. investment giant Apollo Global Management — has become its new majority shareholder.
Despite the change in ownership, the club’s leadership will remain intact. Enrique Cerezo will continue as president, while Miguel Ángel Gil stays on as CEO and co-owner. Atlético stressed that the deal is not connected to any multi-club ownership strategy, aiming instead to strengthen the club’s financial stability and international reach.
Apollo Sports Capital has an established presence in global sport, having previously invested in major tennis events such as the Madrid Open and the Miami Open. The move marks a significant step in the ongoing American expansion into European football ownership.
