The first half was arguably one of the most electrifying halves of football this season

Bayern Munich secured their fifth consecutive victory over Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in the UEFA Champions League — but the night will be remembered less for the scoreline and more for the heartbreaking injury to Achraf Hakimi.

The first half was arguably one of the most electrifying halves of football this season: relentless pace, razor-sharp passing, and non-stop drama. Bayern were composed and clinical at the back, while PSG — not so much.

It all started in the 4th minute when Joshua Kimmich intercepted a pass and found Harry Kane, whose backheel set up a lightning-quick attack. Michael Olise was denied by Chevalier, but Luis Díaz pounced on the rebound to make it 1–0. From there, chaos ensued: Manuel Neuer saved a one-on-one against Bradley Barcola, while Serge Gnabry saw his powerful strike crash against both posts.

Ousmane Dembélé thought he’d equalized — only for VAR to rule the goal out for the narrowest of offsides. Moments later, disaster struck as the French winger limped off with a hamstring injury. Then came another defensive lapse. In the 32nd minute, Marquinhos inexplicably lost track of Luis Díaz, who punished PSG again with a ruthless finish. 2–0 to Bayern.

But the turning point was pure tragedy. Just before halftime, Díaz lunged into a reckless two-footed challenge on Achraf Hakimi. The Moroccan full-back, realizing the severity of his injury, broke down in tears on the pitch. After VAR review, the referee upgraded the yellow to a straight red card — and the Colombian forward, despite his brace, became the night’s unlikely villain.

The second half followed a predictable script: PSG pushed forward, Bayern absorbed pressure. Vitinha and Lee Kang-in combined well down the left, and substitute João Neves pulled one back with a composed finish to make it 2–1. Yet, when it mattered most, Manuel Neuer stood tall — producing vintage saves and commanding his box with authority.
