Real - Barcelona 2:1

Real Madrid strengthened their grip on the La Liga title race with a crucial 2–1 victory over arch-rivals Barcelona at the iconic Santiago Bernabéu Stadium — a result that also gives Los Blancos a major psychological boost in the battle for Spanish supremacy.

The parallels with last season’s El Clásico were hard to ignore. Both fixtures took place on the same weekend, yet this time the mood in Madrid was entirely different. While last year’s defeat raised questions about Carlo Ancelotti’s tenure, this result will delight those who back current manager Xabi Alonso and his vision for the club’s future.

The outcome was determined as much by performance as by result. Real Madrid completely nullified Barcelona’s attacking rhythm — though it’s worth noting that the Catalans were missing several key players through injury. In contrast, Madrid were near full strength, and Kylian Mbappé continued his brilliant form, opening the scoring midway through the first half with a calm one-on-one finish. A far cry from his previous El Clásico, when he was caught offside eight times at the Bernabéu.

Barcelona briefly hit back after a defensive lapse from Arda Güler, as Marcus Rashford set up Fermín López to equalize. But parity lasted just 15 minutes — on the 42nd minute, Jude Bellingham found himself unmarked in the box and steered home a precise finish to restore Real’s advantage.

After the break, Barcelona pushed hard to turn the tide in their trademark possession style, but it was Real Madrid who came closest to scoring again. On 52 minutes, Kylian Mbappé stepped up to take a penalty, only for Wojciech Szczęsny to deny him with a brilliant save that kept the game alive.

Despite the late tension, Real Madrid comfortably saw out the win, securing all three points and extending their lead at the top of La Liga to five points over Barcelona, who left the Spanish capital frustrated and increasingly under pressure in the title race.
