The opening matchday of the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 season has set a stunning new benchmark — and it's all about goals.

A total of 67 goals were scored across just 18 matches during the first round of group-stage fixtures — officially smashing the previous record for most goals scored on a single matchday in the competition’s history.

The old record of 63 goals was set all the way back in the 2000/01 campaign, but after this week’s goal-fest, that mark has been left in the dust.

Leading the way was the breathtaking 4-4 draw between Juventus and Borussia Dortmund — a true Champions League classic. Not far behind was Eintracht Frankfurt’s emphatic 5-1 demolition of Galatasaray, delivering six goals in a fiery clash.

Remarkably, fans were treated to four or more goals in 11 of the 16 fixtures, showcasing the attacking flair and unpredictability that make the Champions League the greatest show in club football.
