Official: Gianluigi Donnarumma Joins Manchester City
Manchester City have officially announced the signing of Italian goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain, confirming one of the most high-profile goalkeeping moves of the summer.
The club revealed the news via their official website, although financial details of the transfer remain undisclosed. However, multiple sources suggest the deal cost City somewhere between €35 million and €39 million.
The signing comes just hours after Fenerbahçe confirmed the arrival of Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson, who had been Manchester City’s No.1 since 2017. Negotiations between City and the Turkish giants were reportedly difficult, and there was genuine uncertainty at the Etihad about whether their goalkeeping reshuffle would go according to plan.
In the end, it did — and with Donnarumma now officially a City player, the reigning Premier League champions can look ahead to the future with one of Europe’s most talented goalkeepers between the posts.
A Proven Winner
Still just 26 years old, Donnarumma already boasts an impressive résumé. Last season, he made 47 appearances across all competitions for PSG, keeping 17 clean sheets. During his time in Paris, he won:
- 4x Ligue 1 titles
- 2x Coupe de France
- 3x Trophée des Champions
- 1x UEFA Champions League
His Champions League performances — especially during PSG's title-winning run — earned him praise as one of the standout players in Europe. Prior to his spell in France, Donnarumma lifted the Supercoppa Italiana with AC Milan.
On the international stage, he was the hero of UEFA Euro 2020, helping Italy lift the trophy and being named the tournament’s Player of the Tournament.
