Shakhtar Donetsk head coach has spoken publicly for the first time about the recent high-profile departures

Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Arda Turan has spoken publicly for the first time about the recent high-profile departures of midfielders Georgiy Sudakov and Kevin Macedo, calling both moves a natural part of the club’s long-term strategy.

Sudakov completed a move to Benfica earlier this month, while Kevin is on the verge of joining Fulham in a transfer expected to be finalized within days.

“As for Kevin and Sudakov, these are parts of a bigger picture — our long-term club strategy,” Turan told Football 360. “Young, talented, and ambitious players want to challenge themselves in Europe’s top leagues. That’s normal. I respect their decisions to grow and take the next step in their careers.”

Turan Backs Club's Transfer Vision

The former Turkish international confirmed he had multiple discussions with Shakhtar’s sporting leadership, including Dario Srna, Serhiy Palkin, and the club president, about the club’s transfer approach.

“I’ve spoken extensively with Dario about transfer policy, and I fully support the vision he and the club have laid out,” said Turan. “It’s logical, it’s long-term, and it’s working.”

“We believe in our direction — identifying, developing, and preparing young players for the biggest stages. And with time, more talented footballers will rise through our system and prove themselves.”

Turan added: “I’m genuinely happy that both Sudakov and Kevin got these opportunities — and even more so that they were ready to take them.”
