A groundbreaking move for Spanish football and La Liga's global expansion strategy

La Liga could make history this December as the Spanish top flight prepares to stage its first-ever official league match outside of Spain, according to a report from Marca.

The proposed fixture between Villarreal and Barcelona, scheduled for 20 December 2025, is likely to be played at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, USA, pending final approval by the board of the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

Both clubs have reportedly agreed that their La Liga meeting will not take place at Villarreal’s usual home, Estadio de la Cerámica, signalling their support for the move across the Atlantic.

The RFEF board is expected to vote on the proposal during its next meeting. If approved, the federation will begin formal proceedings to request permission for the international staging - a groundbreaking move for Spanish football and La Liga's global expansion strategy.
