The conflict arose following goalkeeper's recent back surgery

FC Barcelona have officially announced that goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen has signed the necessary consent forms allowing the club’s medical team to submit an official health report to La Liga.

The conflict arose following ter Stegen’s recent back surgery. While the German international publicly declared a three-month recovery period, Barcelona intended to report a longer absence — up to five months — in order to free up 80% of his salary space under La Liga’s squad registration rules.

The disagreement escalated when ter Stegen reportedly refused to authorize the submission of his medical documents, effectively cutting off communication with the club. In response, Barcelona launched disciplinary proceedings and stripped him of the team captaincy.

However, tensions have now cooled. The Catalan club confirmed today that ter Stegen has signed all required paperwork and has been reinstated as the first-team captain.

Barcelona’s next fixture is the traditional Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como, a side currently managed by former Barça midfielder Cesc Fàbregas. The club’s La Liga campaign kicks off on August 16 with an away trip to Mallorca.
