Besiktas - Shakhtar 2:4

Shakhtar Donetsk delivered a stunning attacking performance in Istanbul, defeating Beşiktaş 4–2 in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League second qualifying round tie.

Under new head coach Arda Turan, the Ukrainian side looked sharp, fearless, and committed — scoring twice in each half to silence the home crowd at the Vodafone Park and take a strong lead back to Kraków.

Few expected such a confident display from Shakhtar, especially given the ongoing transition under Turan. But Thursday night offered fans a glimpse of the team they’ve missed — aggressive, united, and brutally efficient in front of goal.

Alisson Shines in Statement Win

It took just minutes for Shakhtar to break through the noise of the home support. A determined press from Sudakov near the Beşiktaş box forced a turnover, and the ball quickly found its way to Alisson. The Brazilian cut inside from the right, danced past defenders, and calmly slotted home to make it 1–0.

Beşiktaş struggled to mount a serious response before Shakhtar doubled their lead. This time Alisson turned provider, floating a pinpoint cross to the head of Eguinaldo, who made it 2–0 with a powerful header.

Just before half-time, the hosts were handed a lifeline. Yukhym Konoplia was penalised for a handball inside the box, and new signing Tammy Abraham confidently converted from the spot — 2–1 at the break.

Second-Half Control and Killer Blows

Beşiktaş came out strong after the interval, pressing high and trying to regain momentum. But Shakhtar regained composure and gradually took back control of the match. On 67 minutes, a long, patient build-up ended with a driving run from Alisson, whose deflected shot fell kindly to Kevin at the far post. The midfielder made no mistake — 3–1.

Despite the two-goal cushion, the match remained open. Veteran playmaker João Mário reacted quickest to a rebound and made it 3–2, giving the Turkish side hope. But in stoppage time, Bondarenko surprised the Beşiktaş defence with a late run, breaking the offside line and calmly squaring for Kevin, who buried his second of the night — 4–2.

Advantage Shakhtar, But Tie Still Alive

The second leg will be played on July 31 in Kraków, where Shakhtar now hold a two-goal advantage. However, with the quality and experience in the Beşiktaş squad, the tie is far from over.
