A key figure in Croatia’s golden generation has officially announced his retirement

Former Barcelona and Croatia midfielder Ivan Rakitić has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 37, bringing an end to a remarkable career spanning over two decades.

Throughout his illustrious journey, Rakitić represented several top clubs across Europe and beyond — including FC Basel, Schalke 04, Sevilla FC, FC Barcelona, Al Shabab, and HNK Hajduk Split.

Across all competitions, Rakitić made an impressive 887 appearances, scoring 125 goals and providing 141 assists, establishing himself as one of the most consistent and intelligent midfielders of his generation.

His trophy cabinet speaks for itself. With Barcelona alone, Rakitić won four La Liga titles, four Copa del Rey trophies, and two Spanish Super Cups. He also lifted the UEFA Super Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and won the UEFA Europa League twice with Sevilla. Earlier in his career, he captured the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) with Schalke and the Swiss Cup with Basel.
