Cadillac Eyes Valtteri Bottas for Formula 1 Comeback in 2026
Valtteri Bottas, the Finnish driver who twice finished as Formula 1 runner-up with Mercedes in the late 2010s, could soon return to the F1 grid — this time as the potential lead driver for Cadillac’s highly anticipated entry into the sport.
Currently serving as a reserve and development driver at Mercedes-AMG Petronas, Bottas has remained close to the F1 paddock after his departure from Alfa Romeo. Now, according to a report from Motorsport.com, he tops the shortlist for Cadillac's inaugural Formula 1 team, set to join the grid as early as the 2026 season.
Team officials from the American manufacturer are reportedly planning to attend the upcoming British Grand Prix at Silverstone to hold direct talks with Bottas and other unnamed candidates. However, the source claims Bottas is the clear front-runner and the preferred choice to lead the new outfit.
Cadillac is expected to make a final decision on its first driver within the coming weeks. While the second seat will remain open for longer - possibly until the autumn - the team wants to build its structure around a central figure. Bottas, with his experience, leadership and calm under pressure, fits the bill perfectly.
