The favourites lived up to expectations, cruising into the knockouts with little resistance

The group stage of the UEFA U21 European Championship 2025 is officially in the books. Out of the 16 national sides that kicked off the tournament, only eight remain in contention for continental glory — while the rest pack their bags.

Here are the confirmed quarter-final fixtures:

Portugal vs Netherlands Spain vs England Denmark vs France Germany vs Italy

Ukraine came heartbreakingly close to joining Europe’s elite eight, but ultimately fell short — whether due to lack of luck or lack of desire is still up for debate. In truth, the group stage left much to be desired in terms of drama and upsets. The favourites lived up to expectations, cruising into the knockouts with little resistance.

Across most groups, the two advancing teams did so convincingly, outpacing their rivals by a comfortable margin in both points and performances. It may not have been thrilling, but it was clinical.
