Netherlands - Ukraine 2:0

Ukraine U21 have been eliminated from the UEFA Euro U21 2025 after a 2–0 defeat to Netherlands U21 in their final group stage match, falling short of the quarter-finals.

Heading into the game, the equation was simple — a draw would have been enough for Unai Melgosa's side to progress. Ukraine approached the match with caution and tactical discipline, focusing on compact defending rather than risky attacking plays. For much of the first half, it worked. The Dutch managed their first shot only midway through the opening 45 minutes, and Ukraine responded with a strike of their own from Ocheretko, but remained cautious.

However, a single lapse proved fatal. In the 34th minute, Batagov lost the ball deep in his own half, and van Bommel pounced. He surged into the box from the left and squared the ball perfectly for Valente to tap into an empty net. Suddenly, the dynamics changed — now it was Ukraine chasing the game.

To their credit, Ukraine showed brief signs of life early in the second half. They pushed forward with greater intent and strung together a few dangerous moments. But any momentum was short-lived. In the 57th minute, van Bergen burst through the heart of Ukraine’s defence and calmly chipped the ball over a stranded Neshcheret, doubling the Dutch advantage.

Realistically, a comeback never looked likely. Despite inspirational stories from other nations who’ve battled back from worse, this wasn’t Ukraine’s night. It was, in fact, their most disjointed and uninspired performance of the tournament. Rather than threatening a turnaround, they looked more vulnerable to further damage.

The final whistle confirmed a 2–0 loss and a third-place finish in the group. Ukraine U21 are officially out of Euro 2025, bringing their campaign to a premature and disappointing end.
