The 36-year-old Ukrainian fighter made the emotional announcement via social media

Three-weight world champion Vasiliy Lomachenko has officially announced his retirement from professional boxing, bringing an end to one of the most technically gifted and storied careers in modern boxing history.

The 36-year-old Ukrainian fighter made the emotional announcement via social media, delivering a heartfelt message that reflected on his journey, faith, and the lessons learned both inside and outside the ring.

“There comes a time in every boxer’s life when they hang up the gloves. For me, that day has arrived,” wrote Lomachenko. “I want to thank our Lord Jesus Christ for guiding a small, ambitious boy through a path that showed me that glory and legacy are not the ultimate goal in life. I’m grateful for every victory, every failure in the ring and in life. True victory is not in the ring—it’s overcoming the old self.”

In a deeply personal message, Lomachenko also paid tribute to his family, especially his father and longtime trainer, Anatoly Lomachenko. “My father taught me not only the art of boxing but how to be an example for my own children. He was always there, correcting my mistakes, cheering me on. He is number one among men for me,” he said.

A Legacy of Excellence

Vasiliy Lomachenko ends his professional career with a record of 21 fights, 18 wins (12 by knockout), and only 3 losses — most of them close decisions at the elite level. Known for his dazzling footwork, masterful angles, and unmatched ring IQ, "Loma" was widely regarded as a generational talent.

Before turning pro in 2013, Lomachenko had one of the greatest amateur careers in boxing history. He was a two-time Olympic gold medalist (Beijing 2008, London 2012), a two-time World Champion (2009, 2011), and the 2008 European Champion.
