José Mourinho Set to Take Over Portugal National Team
José Mourinho is reportedly on the verge of making a sensational return to international football, with Turkish outlets claiming he has reached a preliminary agreement to become the next head coach of the Portugal national team.
The 62-year-old tactician, who currently leads Fenerbahçe, is believed to have entered advanced talks with the Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), despite having one year left on his deal with the Istanbul-based club.
Nicknamed “The Special One,” Mourinho is said to be seriously considering the switch, with insiders suggesting he is already making concrete moves behind the scenes to take the reins of his homeland’s squad.
The agreement is expected to officially come into effect in June, following the conclusion of the UEFA Nations League final, where Portugal are potential contenders.
This season, Mourinho has managed Fenerbahçe through 53 competitive matches, securing 33 wins, 12 draws, and 8 defeats — an impressive average of 2.09 points per game.
