Another thrilling day of ice hockey is in the books as the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship continues

Another thrilling day of ice hockey is in the books as the 2025 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship continues to deliver top-tier action in Sweden and Denmark. Day 5 saw dominant performances, surprising upsets, and key shifts in both Group A and Group B standings.

Group A: Crosby Strikes as Canada Cruise, Latvia on the Rise

Latvia put in a convincing display to defeat Slovenia 5–2, a result that lifted them to third in the Group A table. It was a third straight loss for Slovenia, who remain rooted to the bottom with slim hopes of advancing.

Team Canada showed no mercy as they dismantled France in a one-sided 5–0 victory. Sydney Crosby, back in Canadian colours, netted his first goal of the tournament—much to the delight of the fans and the frustration of the French defense.

Group B: Germany Take the Lead, Hungary Celebrate First Win

Germany powered past Norway with an impressive 5–2 victory, moving to the top of Group B. The win puts them a point clear of Czechia and two ahead of Switzerland in a tight race for playoff spots.

Hungary earned their first win of the tournament, overcoming Kazakhstan 4–2 in a hard-fought battle. The result has blown the group wide open and added another layer of drama to the qualification picture.

Coming Up: Key Clashes on the Horizon

The action doesn’t stop. While none of today’s fixtures involve top-ranked contenders, there’s still plenty to play for. Slovakia take on France, USA face Norway, Kazakhstan battle Denmark, and Latvia meet a strong Sweden side.

The tournament runs through May 25, with Czechia entering as the defending champions.
