A political storm is brewing in Brazil — and this time, it’s not over football results, but over fashion. Several members of Brazil’s federal parliament are outraged by plans to introduce a new Brazil national team kit that deviates from the traditional national colours.

According to Olé, federal deputy Zé Trovão has submitted a bill that seeks to prohibit the use and sale of any official kits that do not feature the colours of the Brazilian flag — green, yellow, blue, and white. The proposed legislation would apply to all official state and private representatives of Brazil in international competitions.

The move comes after leaks revealed plans for an alternative Brazil kit in red with black accents — a striking departure from the team’s iconic canary-yellow home jersey. Although this red strip would only be used as a secondary option, the symbolic break with tradition has caused uproar in political circles.

According to GloboEsporte, the controversial new strip is expected to be officially unveiled in March 2026, shortly before Brazil announces its final squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026.

For now, the bill awaits debate in the lower house of the Brazilian Congress. If passed, it could mark an unprecedented intersection of politics, national identity, and football fashion.
