Argentina national team risks losing fans' support

Argentina could face disciplinary action following alleged racist and xenophobic behavior by fans during the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifier against Brazil in March at the Estadio Monumental, according to a report by TyC Sports.

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) is reportedly preparing a formal complaint to FIFA after a video surfaced showing an Argentina supporter making monkey gestures and other discriminatory actions toward Brazilian fans. The footage, captured by a Brazilian spectator, is expected to be the central piece of evidence in the case presented to international football authorities.

FIFA is expected to review the incident under its anti-discrimination protocols. If the claims are upheld, Argentina could be forced to play their next home qualifier — against Colombia in June — behind closed doors.

Repeat Offenders?

The Argentine Football Association (AFA) has faced several disciplinary measures in recent years for crowd-related misconduct, including pitch invasions, violent behavior, and incidents outside stadiums. A proven pattern of infractions could lead to stricter sanctions under FIFA's regulations on repeat offenses.

This development adds a bitter aftertaste to what was a historic 4-1 victory for Argentina over their biggest South American rivals.

The qualification journey in Europe is just beginning. Stay tuned and don’t forget to share the fixtures, results, and standings with fellow fans as the road to World Cup 2026 continues.
