The Brazilian Championship has started

São Paulo FC were unable to kick off their 2025 Brasileirão campaign with a win, settling for a disappointing 0-0 draw at home against Sport Recife.

It could have started differently. Just three minutes into the game, Luciano was brought down in the box by Du Queiroz, earning São Paulo an early penalty. However, Jonathan Calleri saw his effort from the spot saved, setting the tone for a night of missed opportunities.

Manager Luis Zubeldía made several tactical changes after the break in search of a breakthrough. The hosts came close again when Luiz Gustavo rattled the post in the 53rd minute, but the deadlock remained.

The final whistle was met with boos from the frustrated Morumbi faithful, as São Paulo failed to convert possession and pressure into goals on opening day.
