Club World Cup 2025 Loses One Team as León Disqualified
FIFA has announced that Mexican club León will be excluded from the 2025 Club World Cup due to a rule prohibiting teams with the same owner from participating in the tournament. The decision comes as León is owned by Grupo Pachuca, which also owns Pachuca, another team set to compete in the tournament.
In a statement, FIFA explained: "In accordance with Article 10, Paragraph 4 of the FIFA Club World Cup Regulations, FIFA has decided that Club León will be excluded from the competition, and the replacement club will be announced in due course."
León had been scheduled to play in the group stage alongside Chelsea, Flamengo, and Espérance. Their disqualification leaves a vacancy that will be filled by another team, yet to be announced.
