Lionel Messi has confirmed he will miss Argentina’s crucial World Cup 2026 qualifiers due to an injury. Speaking through an Instagram post, the 37-year-old expressed his frustration at being sidelined for the games against Uruguay and Brazil.

“It really hurts me to miss these very important matches. I wanted to play, but my injury means I need rest, so I won’t be able to join the team. I’ll be rooting for you like any other fan. Vamos, Argentina!” the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner wrote.

According to reports, Messi is dealing with an adductor muscle issue, ruling him out for several weeks. However, Argentina currently leads the CONMEBOL qualifying group, which effectively secures their path to the 2026 World Cup finals.
