Canada Defeats Sweden in 4 Nations Face-Off Opener: Watch the Highlights
The 4 Nations Face-Off got underway across the Atlantic, marking the first major international tournament since 2016 featuring the best players from the NHL. In front of over 21,000 fans at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Team Canada secured a 4-3 overtime victory against Sweden.
"I’ve always said we miss these types of games, where the best players face off against the best. It’s the highest level of hockey you can find—fast, skilled, experienced players doing great things," said Connor McDavid, Canada’s star center. "We haven’t seen this level of play in a decade."
The Canadians led by two goals twice in the game, but the Swedes mounted a comeback in the third period, forcing overtime with a 3-on-3 format. The decisive moment came thanks to Mitch Marner, who scored a spectacular goal from under the defender’s stick to give Canada the victory.
The second game of the tournament will feature Team USA against Finland.
