Andriy Lunin

Andriy Lunin’s playing time at Real Madrid is set to become even more limited. According to the reputable Spanish outlet AS, head coach Carlos Ancelotti has decided to hand the goalkeeping duties in key Copa del Rey matches to first-choice goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois.

Previously, Lunin was entrusted with Copa del Rey fixtures to gain some playing time since Courtois remains the undisputed starter in both La Liga and the Champions League. However, with the tournament entering its decisive phase, Ancelotti has opted for the more reliable Courtois, as he reportedly lacks full confidence in Lunin. Indeed, the Ukrainian's stats are far from impressive this season — he has conceded 12 goals in eight appearances.

Real Madrid recently reached the Copa del Rey semi-finals following a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Leganés in the quarter-finals. Lunin featured in that match and conceded two goals, which may have contributed to Ancelotti's decision to rely on Courtois for the crucial upcoming fixtures.
