Andriy Lunin

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has officially announced that Ukrainian goalkeeper Andriy Lunin will start in the upcoming Copa del Rey Round of 16 clash against Celta Vigo.

"Tomorrow’s match gives us a chance to respond after a disappointing performance in our last game," Ancelotti stated during the pre-match press conference. "As for Aurelien Tchouameni, I believe he performed well as a center-back, as the statistics show, but I know it’s not his natural position. Once David Alaba returns, Aurelien will move back to midfield."

The Italian coach also addressed the recent loss in the Spanish Super Cup: "We made many mistakes, and we've analyzed them. This squad is young, energetic, and full of quality. I fully trust them. The Super Cup was a painful game, but we have won many finals. Claims that we are an unprepared team don’t bother me because they are simply untrue."

When asked about possible moves in the January transfer window, Ancelotti remained tight-lipped but confirmed, "Tomorrow, Lunin will be in goal for us."

This season, Lunin has made six appearances for Real Madrid across all competitions, conceding eight goals and keeping three clean sheets.

The Copa del Rey Round of 16 match between Real Madrid and Celta Vigo will take place tomorrow, January 16, with kickoff scheduled for 21:30 CET.
