A revolution is starting in Barcelona

Today could mark a turning point for FC Barcelona, as current president Joan Laporta faces the threat of a no-confidence vote. The anticipated move has set the stage for a dramatic day at the Catalan club.

Spanish media outlets, including Diario Sport, suggest that the initiative will likely be led by Jordi Farré, a prominent Catalan businessman and former presidential candidate. Farré previously spearheaded the campaign to oust Laporta’s predecessor, Josep Maria Bartomeu, in 2020. While his earlier efforts paved the way for change, Farré ultimately lost the subsequent election to Laporta.

2024-25 La Liga Standings

Under Barcelona’s club statutes, a no-confidence vote requires the signatures of 15% of the club’s socio members—16,256 out of 109,637. If the motion reaches this threshold, a vote will be scheduled, with a two-thirds majority needed to remove the president from office.

Should the motion proceed, it could trigger a significant shake-up in Barcelona’s leadership. For now, the footballing world waits to see if history will repeat itself, and if Farré can once again ignite a revolution within the club.
