Leeds End Winless Streak with Derby Victory Over Sheffield United
Leeds United managed to break their two-game winless run, which had prevented Daniel Farke's side from topping the Championship table. On Friday, Leeds triumphed in the Yorkshire derby, defeating the current league leaders Sheffield United, the last team in the division to remain unbeaten.
The match was largely dominated by the hosts, who steadily increased the pressure on the visitors' defense after a measured start. However, Leeds were only able to break the deadlock in the 70th minute. Joe Rothwell delivered a low corner into the middle of the box, and Pascal Struijk finished with a powerful strike under the crossbar. Just before the final whistle, Leeds doubled their lead. Mateo Joseph latched onto a through ball from Joel Piroe, muscled past his marker, and smashed the ball into the back of the net.
Leeds United now climb to third place in the Championship, and a change at the top of the table is possible if Sunderland can beat Hull on Sunday.
