Barcelona's veteran goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen is expected to be sidelined for the rest of the season following a serious right knee injury. The club announced that the 32-year-old underwent successful surgery on his torn patellar tendon at the Hospital de Barcelona, overseen by Dr. Joan Carles Monllau and the FC Barcelona Medical Services.

Ter Stegen, who had participated in all six of Barcelona's La Liga matches this season, was injured during the recent game against Villarreal. He was taken off in the first half's injury time and replaced by Inaki Peña as Barcelona secured a 5-1 victory under coach Hansi Flick.

The injury is a significant setback for Ter Stegen, who was recently appointed as Germany's starting goalkeeper by coach Julian Nagelsmann, following Manuel Neuer's international retirement. Ter Stegen is anticipated to be out of action for at least eight months.
