Kimi AntonelliUnited States Grand Prix in Austin, leading Mercedes to the top step of the podium. Charles LeclercFerrari finished second, while Max VerstappenRed Bull Racing.
The result puts Antonelli on the brink of Formula 1 history. The Mercedes driver could become the youngest world champion in the sport's history as early as this Sunday at the Mexico City Grand Prix, with the championship battle reaching a decisive stage.
Following his triumph in Austin, Antonelli extended his championship lead over Mercedes team-mate and closest rival George Russell to 123 points. He now holds a 124-point advantage over Lewis Hamilton, who is competing for Ferrari.
Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris have officially been eliminated from the title race, leaving Russell and Hamilton as the only drivers who can still mathematically prevent Antonelli from becoming the youngest Formula 1 world champion at the age of 20.
What Does Antonelli Need to Win the Title in Mexico?
The championship scenarios are becoming increasingly clear. Antonelli can secure the world title at the Mexico City Grand Prix if he finishes ninth or higher. Alternatively, the Mercedes star will be crowned champion if neither Russell nor Hamilton wins the race.
