Real Madrid’s 2-1 triumph at the Camp Nou on Sunday did far more than breathe new life into the title race; it brought a screeching halt to Barcelona’s historic domestic momentum on multiple fronts.

Prior to matchday ten, Hansi Flick’s side stood as the final remaining team across Europe’s top five leagues boasting an unblemished 100 per cent winning record. Victory on Sunday would have seen the Blaugrana claim outright ownership of the greatest start to a season in La Liga history with ten consecutive wins. Instead, José Mourinho’s men froze their rivals at nine, leaving Barcelona level with the historic benchmark set by Miguel Muñoz’s Real Madrid side back in 1968/69.

The defeat also dismantled Barcelona’s formidable home fortress, snapping a 19-match domestic winning streak at the Camp Nou. Taking into account the prolonged stadium redevelopment project, the Catalan giants had not dropped points on home soil in La Liga since May 2023.
