PSG vs Lyon Postponed as Paris Braces for Fresh Wave of Protests

The highly anticipated Paris Saint-Germain clash with Lyon in Ligue 1 has been postponed by 24 hours as the French capital prepares for another wave of protests over the weekend. The match, scheduled to take place at the Parc des Princes at 21:45 on Sunday, will now kick off at 22:30 on Monday.
The decision follows a request from French police, who ruled out staging the fixture on its original date. Authorities in Paris are preparing a major security operation ahead of demonstrations planned for Saturday, raising concerns over the resources needed to manage multiple large-scale events across the capital.
Last Saturday, around 550,000 people took part in demonstrations against rising fuel prices and the increasing cost of living. Supported by trade unions and student groups, the protests spread across several major French cities, including Paris. However, the marches were overshadowed by incidents of violence, looting and vandalism.
The security challenge is further complicated by Sunday's NFL game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and the New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France. The American football fixture is expected to require a substantial police presence, adding to the pressure on security services already preparing for the demonstrations.
Meanwhile, another Ligue 1 fixture has also been rescheduled. Toulouse's home match against Troyes, originally due to take place on Saturday, has been moved to Sunday at the request of local authorities.
