Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has been rushed to a hospital after losing consciousness following a first-team training session at the club's Säbener Straße headquarters, according to reports from Sky Sport Germany and Bild. The 40-year-old Belgian tactician's condition is currently reported to be stable.
An air ambulance helicopter landed directly on the training pitch in Munich on Friday afternoon as emergency medical responders were summoned to the scene. Kompany was treated on site by an emergency doctor before being transported to a local clinic.
The health scare comes after Kompany had been battling an acute viral infection over the past week. Despite showing clear signs of illness, he insisted on overseeing Bayern’s 6-1 Bundesliga victory against RB Leipzig from the touchline, although he was unable to attend post-match media duties.
Kompany subsequently missed training sessions on Monday and Tuesday, with assistant coach Aaron Danks stepping in to conduct the pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday's Champions League fixture against Arsenal (2-2). While Kompany managed to return to the bench for the European match, his condition worsened following Friday's recovery session, leading to his collapse.
