Olympique Lyon held Fenerbahce to a 1-1 draw in Istanbul in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League play-off tie, leaving everything to be decided in the return match in France next week.

Fenerbahce made the brighter start in front of their home supporters, putting Lyon under early pressure. The French side, however, gradually settled into the contest and began to pose a threat of their own.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the 40th minute when Lois Openda rose to head home a cross from Corentin Tolisso. It was a clinical finish that gave Lyon a precious lead going into the interval.

Fenerbahce responded immediately after the restart. Early in the second half, Mason Greenwood produced a superb strike into the far top corner to bring the Turkish side level and send the home crowd into celebration.

Both teams then pushed for a winner in an increasingly open encounter. Openda came close to restoring Lyon's advantage, while Nene Dorgeles threatened for the hosts, with both players seeing efforts hit the woodwork. The goalkeepers also produced a number of important saves to keep the score level.
