FIFA is facing the prospect of one of the most significant governance disputes in modern football, with all 55 UEFA member associations reportedly discussing the possibility of boycotting a future FIFA World Cup. The growing unrest follows plans by FIFA President Gianni Infantino to sell a 20% stake in the organisation's commercial rights to private investors in a deal said to be worth $4 billion.

According to multiple reports, UEFA has called an emergency meeting after expressing serious concerns over the proposed transaction. European football's governing body argues that the commercial future of the global game should not be decided without the involvement of its member associations, insisting that such a move was prepared without proper consultation. Media reports have also linked investment firm founder Josh Kushner to the group of potential investors behind the proposal.

Gianni Infantino has defended the initiative, arguing that the investment would significantly increase financial distributions to national football associations, with annual payments potentially rising to $20 million per federation. However, UEFA is reportedly maintaining a firm stance, warning that unless the proposal is withdrawn, European nations could seriously consider boycotting the FIFA World Cup in what would mark an unprecedented showdown between football's two most powerful governing bodies.
