Nigeria have emerged as the standout force of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations

Nigeria have emerged as the standout force of the group stage at the Africa Cup of Nations, becoming the only team to win all of their matches and seal progression to the knockout rounds without dropping a single point.

The latest victim of the Super Eagles was Uganda, widely regarded as the weakest side in Group C. From the opening whistle, Nigeria imposed their authority on the contest, dictating the tempo and spending long spells camped in the opposition half.

The task for Uganda became even more difficult in the 56th minute when their goalkeeper was sent off, effectively ending any hopes of a comeback. Nigeria took full advantage, calmly scoring three goals and managing the game with the confidence of a team fully aware of its superiority.

Even when they allowed Uganda a consolation goal late on, there was never any sense of danger. Nigeria remained in complete control, seeing out the match with ease and underlining their credentials as one of the tournament favourites.
