Aubameyang on Target but Gabon Fall to Mozambique at AFCON

Gabon and Mozambique produced the most entertaining and high-scoring contest of the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 so far, with five goals lighting up a dramatic encounter that ultimately ended in disappointment for the Panthers.
Despite finding the net through former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Gabon were unable to turn the tide as Mozambique claimed a 3–2 victory on the continental stage.
By the time Aubameyang struck, Gabon were already two goals down, having struggled to contain Mozambique’s sharp attacking play in the opening stages. The situation worsened after the break when Diogo Calila rose highest to power home a header, extending Mozambique’s advantage.
Gabon attempted a late revival. In the 76th minute, Moussunda pulled one back to make it 3–2, setting up a tense finale and giving hope of a dramatic comeback.
However, Mozambique showed composure and discipline in the closing minutes, shutting down Gabon’s attacks and seeing out the result to secure their first victory at the Africa Cup of Nations 2025.
