Tunisia - Uganda 3:1

Tunisia finally laid to rest their long-standing struggles in opening matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, delivering a commanding 3–1 victory over Uganda in Rabat. In torrential rain, the Carthage Eagles showed composure, control and attacking sharpness — a performance that sent a clear message to the rest of the continent.

From the opening whistle, Sami Trabelsi’s side dictated the tempo. Midfield leader Ellyes Skhiri set the tone early, rising highest to head home after a pinpoint delivery from Hannibal Mejbri. It was a goal that reflected Tunisia’s authority — aggressive, well-structured and decisive.

The pressure never eased. Elias Achouri doubled the lead with a spectacular volley, showcasing Tunisia’s attacking confidence, before later completing his brace to put the result beyond doubt. Uganda, largely penned back for long spells, could muster only a late consolation goal as the match drew to a close.

This victory carries extra significance for Tunisia: it is their first win in an opening AFCON fixture since 2013.
