The Brazilian midfielder confirmed the decision via an emotional farewell video

Rafinha Alcântara has officially announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 32, bringing an early end to a career that spanned Europe’s elite leagues. The Brazilian midfielder confirmed the decision via an emotional farewell video, delivering words of thanks in eight different languages — a reflection of both his journey and his global footprint in the game.

A graduate of La Masia, Rafinha made his name at FC Barcelona, the club where he enjoyed the most consistent spell of his career. Under the guidance of Luis Enrique, he was part of the legendary squad that lifted the UEFA Champions League in 2015, contributing intelligence, technique and versatility to one of the most dominant teams of the modern era.

Away from Camp Nou, Rafinha Alcântara gained valuable experience across Europe. He spent two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain, making 39 appearances in all competitions, and also represented Inter, Celta Vigo and Real Sociedad, adapting his elegant midfield style to different leagues and tactical demands.

The final chapter of his playing career came in the Middle East with Al-Arabi in Qatar, a club he left in the summer of 2024.
