Paris Saint-Germain brought their 2025 campaign to a commanding close

Paris Saint-Germain brought their 2025 campaign to a commanding close with a 4–0 victory over Fontenay-le-Comte in the Coupe de France, sealing a landmark moment in French football history. The win marked PSG’s 50th official victory of the calendar year — a feat never before achieved by any club in France.

It was a night of quiet significance rather than drama, but the scale of the achievement was not lost on Luis Enrique. Typically measured in his assessments, the PSG head coach described the year as “historic”, underlining the consistency and dominance his side have shown across all competitions.

Since the arrival of new ownership in 2011, PSG have built a reputation for ruthlessness against lower-league opposition, and this result only reinforced that trend. Once again, the Parisian giants avoided any hint of an upset, extending their long-standing record of never being eliminated by teams from outside the top divisions.

Yet even on a night of celebration, there was a sense of what might have been. Despite scoring freely, PSG fell just short of breaking the all-time record for goals scored in a single calendar year. They finished 2025 with 178 goals in all competitions — agonisingly close to the benchmark of 180 set by Barcelona in 2015.
