Spain without Yamal

Barcelona star Lamine Yamal has been excluded from the Spain national team for the upcoming international fixtures following an unexpected medical procedure carried out without prior consultation with the national team’s medical staff.

In an official statement, the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) expressed both surprise and dissatisfaction with how the situation unfolded:

“The medical department of the RFEF learned on November 10 — the day the national team camp officially began — that Lamine Yamal had undergone an invasive radiofrequency procedure that same morning to treat pubic discomfort. This treatment was carried out without informing the national team’s medical staff, who only received the official medical report later that evening at 22:40. The report advised a rest period of 7 to 10 days.”

“Given the circumstances, and prioritising the player’s health, safety, and well-being, the RFEF has decided to release Lamine Yamal from this call-up. We wish him a full and speedy recovery,” the federation concluded.

The decision means the 18-year-old prodigy, recently crowned as the best young player of 2025, will not feature in Spain’s upcoming matches as he recovers from the minor procedure.
