It was a tough night for the Ukrainian Premier League representatives in the UEFA Europa Conference League as both Shakhtar Donetsk and Dynamo Kyiv failed to collect any points on Matchday 2 of the 2025/26 campaign.

Shakhtar suffered a heartbreaking 1–2 defeat to Legia Warsaw, conceding a stunning free-kick winner deep into stoppage time. Meanwhile, Dynamo Kyiv endured a night to forget in Turkey, falling 0–3 to Samsunspor without registering a single shot on target.

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace’s long-awaited European debut at Selhurst Park turned into disappointment as the English side were stunned 1–2 by AEK Larnaca. In Italy, veteran striker Edin Džeko etched his name into the record books — at 39 years and 220 days old, the Fiorentina forward became the oldest player ever to score in the history of the Europa Conference League.

The evening also brought drama off the pitch. Due to severe weather conditions that left the pitch unplayable, officials were forced to suspend the Rijeka vs. Sparta Prague fixture at halftime. After consultations with both teams, UEFA confirmed the match will resume on Friday, 24 October, starting from the beginning of the second half.
