FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025: Argentina and Colombia Reach Semi-Final
Argentina U-20 are back among the world’s elite, booking their place in the FIFA U-20 World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 2007 after a commanding 2-0 win over Mexico.
The Albiceleste got off to a flying start, with Máer Carrizo pouncing on a rebound in the 9th minute to open the scoring. Mateo Silvetti doubled the lead early in the second half, showcasing his pace and composure as he raced past two defenders before slotting home in a clinical one-on-one finish.
The victory means Argentina will face continental rivals Colombia in a blockbuster semi-final clash on October 15.
Spain Out, Villarreal Shines as Colombia Pull Off Quarter-Final Upset
Meanwhile, Spain U-20 – widely tipped as one of the tournament favourites – are heading home after a shock 3-1 defeat to a spirited Colombian side in the quarter-finals.
Despite edging past Ukraine in the Round of 16, La Rojita couldn’t contain Neicer Villarreal, the 20-year-old Colombian striker who produced a sensational hat-trick to single-handedly dismantle the Spanish defence.
With that stunning performance, Villarreal has not only announced himself on the global stage, but also set up a mouthwatering semi-final against Argentina – a match that promises to deliver fireworks between two of South America’s most passionate footballing nations.
