Ukraine Crash Out of FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 as Mexico Thrash Chile
Ukraine U20 have been eliminated from the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2025 after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Spain in the Round of 16. The result marks another early exit for the young Ukrainian side, who once again fail to progress beyond the first knockout round.
It was a tightly contested affair in which the only goal came midway through the first half. Spanish midfielder Pablo García latched onto a clever lofted ball into the box, took a smart touch to control, and fired a powerful shot under the crossbar to give La Rojita the lead.
Dmytro Mykhaylenko's men pushed for an equaliser in the second half but struggled to break down a disciplined Spanish defence. Their best chance came in the 55th minute, when Vashchenko fired a dangerous shot from outside the box that deflected just wide. In the dying moments, half-chances fell to Husev and Pishchur, but neither was able to find the net. Final score: Spain 1–0 Ukraine.
Mexico U20 Cruise Past Chile in Dominant Display
Elsewhere, Mexico U20 delivered a statement performance with a commanding 4-1 victory over Chile to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Tahiel Jiménez and Iker Ochoa both got on the scoresheet, while substitute Hugo Camberos added a brace to seal an emphatic win. Chile managed only a late consolation goal through Juan Rossel in the 88th minute, but by then the damage was already done.
The result sets up a tantalizing quarter-final clash for Mexico, who will face the winner of the tie between Argentina and Nigeria.
