Red Bull Racing has announced a major leadership shake-up

Red Bull Racing has announced a major leadership shake-up as long-serving Team Principal and CEO Christian Horner departs after nearly 20 years at the helm. His role will be taken over by Laurent Mekies, the current boss of sister team RB (formerly AlphaTauri).

Horner, who took charge in 2005 during Red Bull’s debut season in Formula 1, has been a driving force behind the team’s transformation from midfield contenders to a dominant powerhouse. Under his guidance, Red Bull claimed multiple World Constructors’ Championships and elevated talents like Max Verstappen to global superstardom.

Horner’s exit comes amid growing speculation surrounding the future of reigning World Champion Max Verstappen. Although the Dutch superstar is contracted with Red Bull until 2028, recent interest from rivals — notably Mercedes — has sparked fresh uncertainty.
