Kompany in Awe of Messi: "He's My Age - I Don't Understand How He's Still Doing It"
Vincent Kompany has admitted he is left in disbelief by Lionel Messi's enduring brilliance, as the 37-year-old continues to light up the FIFA Club World Cup with Inter Miami.
Messi was once again the difference-maker for his side, curling home a stunning free-kick to secure a 2–1 win over Porto and putting Inter Miami on the verge of the knockout rounds.
"There’s something special, truly special about him," said the Bayern Munich head coach. "He’s pretty much the same age as me. I honestly don’t understand how he’s still doing it."
Kompany added: "We keep watching him and we need to cherish every minute he’s still out there on the pitch."
Messi made his professional debut for Barcelona as a 16-year-old, and nearly two decades later, just days before his 38th birthday, he’s still delivering moments of magic on the biggest stages.
Inter Miami will face Palmeiras on Monday in their final group match, while Kompany’s Bayern Munich take on Benfica on Tuesday with top spot in their group still up for grabs.
