Mudryk had already been provisionally suspended from competitive fixtures pending further investigation

Mykhailo Mudryk, the Ukrainian winger for Chelsea, has been officially charged by the Football Association (FA) for violating anti-doping regulations. The 24-year-old tested positive for meldonium, a banned substance, and could now face a suspension of up to four years if the breach is proven to be intentional.

A spokesperson for the FA confirmed to Reuters that the charge relates to “the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance.” Mudryk had already been provisionally suspended from competitive fixtures pending further investigation.

The winger joined Chelsea in January 2023 from Shakhtar Donetsk for a fee exceeding €70 million. His last appearance came on November 28 in a UEFA Europa Conference League clash against Heidenheim. News of the positive test broke three weeks later, shaking the club’s midseason plans.

In early June, Chelsea appeared to distance themselves from Mudryk by stripping him of his iconic No.10 shirt, handing it instead to rising star Cole Palmer. As of now, Chelsea FC has declined to comment on the ongoing investigation.

If found guilty of deliberate use, Mudryk could be sidelined until 2028 — a career-defining punishment. The football world now watches closely as this high-profile case unfolds.
