Vincent Kompany

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany addressed the media ahead of his side’s opening match at the FIFA Club World Cup against Auckland City. The game will take place on Sunday at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati, with kick-off set for 12:00 local time (18:00 CET).

On the Opponent and the Opener

“We respect Auckland City – they are well-organised, play with intensity, and will be compact on the pitch. We've analysed their recent matches and are aware that while they are semi-professional, they can still cause problems. We must remain fully focused on ourselves,” said Kompany.

On Squad Readiness and Fitness

“We’ll manage minutes carefully, especially for players who returned late from international duty. Not everyone will start. Upamecano and Kim Min-jae are not quite at 100% yet. On a positive note, Jonathan Tah is settling in well and showing great leadership qualities,” the Bayern coach added.

On the Tournament and Expectations

“At Bayern Munich, expectations are always at the highest level. Real Madrid, PSG, Manchester City, Boca Juniors – we all share the same ambition. In tournaments like these, the small details make the difference. We must believe in our moment,” Kompany concluded.
