Maurizio Sarri

In a surprising development, Lazio are reportedly working to bring back former manager Maurizio Sarri, offering the veteran coach a contract worth €2.8 million per year, according to Sky Sport Italia.

Sarri, known for his tactical expertise and signature “Sarri-ball” playing style, stepped down from Lazio in March 2024, citing personal reasons. Since then, the 65-year-old has been without a club.

Coaching Carousel at Lazio

After Sarri’s departure, Lazio appointed Igor Tudor, but the Croatian did not stay on for the 2024–25 season. The club then turned to Marco Baroni, who delivered promising results in the first half of the campaign but ultimately failed to secure a European qualification spot, finishing outside the Serie A top positions.

Despite Baroni holding a contract until 2026, Lazio are now expected to part ways with him in the coming days to clear the path for Sarri’s return. The club’s leadership is reportedly convinced that bringing back their former coach will help restore stability and re-energize the squad ahead of next season.

Sarri’s Challenge Ahead

If Sarri returns, he will face the task of reviving a Lazio side eager to bounce back after a disappointing finish. The Tuscan tactician previously led the club to Champions League football and impressed with his tactical sophistication, but whether he can replicate or surpass that success in his second stint remains to be seen.
