Mkhitaryan missed scoring a clean goal against Barcelona by centimeters

Henrikh Mkhitaryan admits he may remember his disallowed goal against FC Barcelona for the rest of his life, following a dramatic 3-3 draw in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-final between Inter Milan and the Catalan giants.

The Armenian midfielder thought he had fired Inter into a late lead when he tapped in at the far post in the 75th minute. But VAR intervened and ruled the goal out for a razor-thin offside — with just a fraction of his boot deemed beyond the last defender.

"Maybe I will think about that disallowed goal my entire life," Mkhitaryan told SempreInter after the match. "At that moment, we could have taken the lead. I was offside by just a few centimetres. But we must not drop our heads. We’ll rest and prepare to get a good result at home, even if we are tired."

The goal, had it stood, would have given Inter Milan a 4-3 lead going into the final 15 minutes at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys. Instead, the sides remain level ahead of next week's second leg in Milan, where a place in the Champions League Final will be decided.
