Official: Virgil van Dijk Signs New Contract Extension with Liverpool
Virgil van Dijk, the heart of Liverpool's defence and club captain, has officially extended his stay at Anfield. The Dutch centre-back has signed a new two-year contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2027, as confirmed by Liverpool FC on their official website.
"I'm very happy, very proud," van Dijk said in an emotional statement. "There are so many emotions inside me when I talk about this. It's just incredible. The journey I've had in my career, and to now extend it for two more years at this amazing club — it's truly special. I'm so, so happy."
The 33-year-old Dutchman joined Liverpool in January 2018 from Southampton and has since become a cornerstone of the team's success under Jürgen Klopp. During his time at Anfield, van Dijk has helped the club to major silverware, including the Premier League title, FA Cup, Community Shield, UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup.
In the current 2024/25 season, van Dijk has made 44 appearances across all competitions, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist — further underlining his enduring influence on both ends of the pitch.
